Augmented Reality Business Card – Avatar Concept from Burton Posey on Vimeo.

I’ve created a special portion of the site for this project. Please visit http://www.burtonposey.com/thecard to see this application in action.

The augmented reality avatar concept for the business card provides a way to provide potential clients and associates a way to get past the logo and brand and get to know the people that make the brand happen. You could just as easily include hobbies or little known facts for yourself or an employee.

This is an idea I’d been kicking around in my head since February. I wanted to find a way that a company could deliver a catchy identity for themselves. Avatars, be it the Mii’s on the Nintendo Wii, or an Xbox Live Avatar, have become extensions of the people who use them.

Special thanks to the Papervision team for the recent rev 911 of Papervision. With it, I was able to resolve issues I had been having for several months that prevented my avatar’s animations from importing properly.

-Character was modeled, unwrapped, rigged, weighted in Maya by myself. Animations (idle, wave) done by Jason Barnes.
-Texture created in Photoshop (Ambient Occlusion maps overlayed from Maya) by myself

About the project

Charged with fixing some issues present in a former version of this site, I took the assets and flow present in an Actionscript 2.0 format and converted the site into an SEO capable, deep linking enabled site. In most dedicated Flash sites, users are given one web address to visit the site through. They’re simply unable to go right to a certain page in the site, let alone back up to a page they were on before within the site’s architecture. Utilizing the fantastic Gaia framework developed by Steven Sacks, I was able to remedy this problem. The client can now refer their entertainment clients to their entertainment page, their patent clients to their patent page, etc.

About the project

Incorporating Papervision3D, dynamically loaded content, and on-demand video streams, the API Leasing Timeline project gives a feature rich account of the monetary and time costs associated with drilling for oil off of our coasts. Notable technical aspects of the projects include the implementation of Papervision3D to display the pages as they seemingly flip out towards the user. When the user zooms out from the booklet, a Bitmap representation of the pages is revealed when the user utilizes the magnifying glass feature. I was responsible for the initial implementation of this project, including initial first research done on Flash 3D technologies and the integration of assets from Autodesk Maya. The project was refactored before launch with a team of 4 developers.

About the project

Developed in Actionscript 3, The Business Roundtable flash components were designed with the intent that editing the content of the widget shouldn’t always have to involve a developer. The images and text of the top component are both xml driven. The information utilized in the ticker component is also xml, though generated from the database of company listings in the site’s databases.
